Artist Statement

The idea of art inspiring art fascinates me - - I see it as a creative spiral of sorts, one innovative idea leading to another continually expanding the original artistic concept. “The January Man Series” was inspired by the lyrics of a song entitled ‘The January Man’” by Scottish songwriter Dave Goulder. I was captivated by the mental images evoked by the song and moved by its message: The passage of time, aging and the attendant sense of mortality. My thanks goes to Dave Goulder for his remarkable ability to ‘paint’ with words and for allowing me to ‘flesh’ his lyrics out even further........

Artist Statement


'And the January Man comes 'round again in woollen coat and boots of leather.
To take another turn and walk along the icy road he knows so well
The January Man is here for starting each and every year along the road forever.'
